Saturday, May 11th, was a beautiful morning, setting the perfect stage for Grassroots Garden Group's highly anticipated 6th Annual Plant Sale in support of the Westchester Food Pantry. We boasted an impressive array of nearly 800 plants available for sale, making it the largest sale to date. Eager customers arrived right on time to get the best selection of flowers, herbs, and vegetables, with many varieties selling out within the first hour!
Grassroots Garden Group extends its deepest gratitude to all those community members who attended the event, contributing to its success and helping to raise essential funds for the Westchester Food Pantry. A special mention must be made to Cantigny Park in Wheaton, the Ball Horticultural Company (Ball Seed) in West Chicago, and to Linda Moreno. Their invaluable donations of plants and soil significantly enriched our offerings at the sale.
Thanks to the support of everyone involved, the plant sale was able to achieve a record-breaking fundraising total of $3,300. This remarkable achievement culminated in the presentation of the funds to Amanda Grant, the dedicated Executive Director of the Westchester Food Pantry, during our May gathering. The impact of this contribution will undoubtedly make a difference in the lives of those served by the pantry.
The plant sale not only served as a vital fundraising initiative but also as a joyful celebration of the arrival of Spring, uniting the community in a shared love for gardening and philanthropy. Looking ahead, Grassroots Garden Group eagerly anticipates the opportunity to host this beloved event again next year, building on the success of this year's sale and continuing to make a positive impact in the local community.
