After a successful inaugural plant sale in 2018 that raised over $1,000 for the Westchester Food Pantry, the Grassroots Garden Group is back with an expanded sale this year. In addition to vegetables, we will now be offering fresh herbs and ten different flower varieties to enhance your garden. “The flowers we are offering are varieties that attract bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds,” says Janet Neal, Grassroots Garden Group member and master gardener. “Planting flowers that attract pollinators is vital not only for the health of your garden, but the community, as well.”
“Some of the flower varieties we offer are pretty unique and not what you would normally see at a local garden store,” remarks Grassroots member Cindy Schreiber. “I think it is fun to try new things in my garden each year and experiment. I hope everyone who comes to our sale will, too, and perhaps find a new favorite flower.” Some of the unique varieties being offered at the plant sale include Aquilegia, Scabiosa, and Cosmos. Don’t know what these are? Then come to the plant sale and find out!
The Grassroots Garden Group’s plant sale will be held from 9am until noon on Saturday, May 18th, at the gazebo by the village fountain at Mannheim Road and 22nd Street. Parking is available on Crestwood Lane. Once again, Grassroots will be donating proceeds from the sale to the Westchester Food Pantry.
